Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, announced recently that Scientific Systems has been honored with an Above and Beyond award in recognition of extraordinary support of its members who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.

Patricia Kelly, Vice President of Human Resources, and one of the company’s longest serving employees was also honored with a Patriot Award in recognition of extraordinary support of her National Guard and Reserve employee(s).

According to Paul Zbikowski ESGR Massachusetts Chair, “The ESGR ‘Above and Beyond’ Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize American Employers who provide extraordinary support and cooperation to their employees and members, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve. Supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s National Guard and Reserve units.”

Patricia Kelly was nominated for the Patriot Award by one of her Reserve Component employees. As the leader of Human Resources at the company, she provides critical support in helping maintain the strength and readiness of the nation’s National Guard and Reserve units.  Of receiving the Patriot Award, Patricia Kelly shares, “It’s a great honor to receive this award. It was really unexpected. I deeply appreciate what our Guard and Reserve members do while on duty, and thank ESGR not only for this award, but for what they do to advocate for our citizen-soldiers.”

Scientific Systems joins the thousands of American employers who have reviewed and amended their current human resources policies to ensure compliance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). Many employers provide “Above and Beyond” support with pay differential to offset the loss of wages, and extension of health care benefits which complement coverage provided by the military when their employees are mobilized.
